My Dollar General $5 off $25 Trip

I haven’t shopped at the DG for a while, but this weekend I just couldn’t pass up the laundry detergent deals!

I purchased 4 bottles of Tide, 1 package of Tide PODS and 3 boxes of Bounce dryer sheets. I used a coupon for every product plus the store coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase.Unfortunately, the store coupon did NOT work exactly how it was supposed to and only credited me $3.96 instead of the max $5. Can you guess how much I spent?

Here’s my breakdown.

4 bottles of Tide laundry detergent 40oz $3.95
-used (4) $2/1 Tide laundry detergent from P&G 12/28 (x 1/31)
Saved $3.96 with the store coupon for $5 off. :<
Final price $3.84 for 4 bottles

1 package of Tide PODS 14 count $3.95
-use $2/1 Tide PODS from RP 12/14 (x 1/31)
Final price $1.95

3 boxes of Bounce dryer sheets 34 count $2 regular price
-used $5/3 Tide Detergents or Tide Boost, Downy, Downy Unstopables or Bounce Bursts (imaged showed dryer sheets and coupon took just fine) from P&G 12/28 (x 1/31)
Final price $1 for all 3 boxes

My total OOP including taxes was $8.32, taxes were $1.53. Before taxes I paid a total of $.84 per product!

When I did this transaction, I presented my store coupon first before any MQ. It did take the $5 off initially, but after all my other discounts, it began to deduct itself so I couldn’t get my maximum savings.

Some may think I overpaid, and I am rather upset that the store coupon didn’t take off it’s total, but I still saved extra money.

Did you make a trip with the $5 off $25 coupon? It is still valid today!

    • I will definitely try that because mine did not maximize either…I paid $8 more than my brother with 2 less items… I believe the digital coupons is what messed up my transaction.
